Dalma

Ingredients:

Thoor dal              -  4 table spoons
Potatoes               -  1 no
Pumpkin               -  2 inches piece(100 gms)
Yam(Senai)          -  2 inch long piece(100 gms)
Brinjals                 -  2 nos
Tomatoes             -  2 nos
French beans        -  4 - 5 nos
Broad beans         -  4 - 5 nos
Green chilies         -  2 nos
Red chilies            -  2 nos
Ginger                   -  1/2 inch
Garlic pears           - 4 - 5 nos
Ghee                      -  1 table spoon
Jeera                     -  1 table spoon
Asafoitida              -  1/2 tea spoon
Turmeric powder   -  1/2 tea spoon
Grated coconut      -  1 table spoon
Salt to taste

For Masala:  Dry fry together 1 table spoon of jeera and 3 red chilies and grind it coarsely.

1.  Wash and cook thoor dal.
2.  Cut potatoes, yam, brinjals, french beans, broad beans and green chilies into 1/2 inch long pieces.
3.  Add the cut vegetables to the cooked dal and let them boil together.
4.  After the vegetables are half cooked add salt, asafoitida and turmeric powder.
5.  Also add the grated coconut to the boiling dal vegetable mixture.
6.  Heat ghee in a kadai, add jeera and red chilies to it and once they crackle add the grated garlic, ginger and curry leaves
7.  After the ginger and garlic cooks add the finely chopped tomatoes and once it turne shapeless add it to the dalma along with the ground masala.
7.  Dalma ready.  Serve with roti/ paratha/ dosa or rice.
