Chow chow pulippu kootu

Ingredients:

Chow chow             -  2 nos
Bengal gram dal      -  1 table spoon
Thoor dal               -  1 table spoon
Ground nuts           -  1 table spoon
 Turmeric powder  -  1 tea spoon
Cooking oil            -  1 1/2 table spoons
Asafoitida              -  1 pinch
Mustard seeds       -  1 table spoon
Curry leaves          -  a few leaves
Salt to taste

For masala:

Coriander seeds  -  1 tea spoon
Bengal gram dal  -  1 tea spoon
Black gram dal    -  1 tea spoon
Fenugreek seeds -  1/2 tea spoon
Red chillies         -  2 - 3 nos
Gratted coconut  -  1 table spoon
Tamarind               -  1 small lemon size (Cleaned and soaked in warmwater and softened)

1.  Peel chow chow and chop it into small pieces.
2.  Boil the thoor dal, bengal gram dal and ground nut together in a pressure cooker till soft.
3.  Boil the chopped chow chow.
4.  Heat oil in a kadai and add 1/2 table spoon of oil and fry all masala ingredients other than coconut and tamarind.
5.  Once the fried items are cooled add the coconut and tamarind and grind it to a paste.
6.  Now add the ground paste and the cooked dal to the cooked chow chow and boil it for 8 - 10 mins.
7.  Remove from stove and heat a kadai with the balance oil.
8.  Add the mustard seeds and once it crackles add the curry leaves and garnish.
9.  Chow chow pulippu kootu ready.
