Manathakkali Vathakuzhambu

Ingredients:

 

Manathakkali               -  2 table spoons

Tamarind                     -  1 lemon sized

Black gram dal             -  1 table spoon
Bengal gram dal           -  1 table spoon
Red chillies                  -  3 nos
Gingly oil                     -  2 table spoons
Asafoitida                    -  1 pinch
Gud(Jaggery)               -  1 pinch
Salt to taste


1.  Take 1/2 tea spoon of oil in a kadai and fry black gram dal, bengal gram dal and red chillies.
2.  Soak tamarind in warm water.
3.  Once the dals turn golden brown remove from kadai and keep it aside.
4.  Once the fried dals cool add the soaked tamarind to it along with salt and asafoitida and grind it to fine paste.
5.  Now add the balance oil and add the manathakkalikais and fry till they turn dark brown.
6.  Now add the ground paste to it along with sufficient water to make it a thick sambar consistency.
7.  Allow it to boil and add more water if necessary and also the gud(Jaggery)
8.  Once the tamarind smell goes and nice manathakkali smell comes out remove from stove.
9.  Manathakkali vathakuzhambu ready.  It tastes terrific with rice and ghee.
