Dal with Spring Onions


வெங்காயத்தாள் கடலை பருப்பு டால் 



Ingredients:

Spring Onion            -  150 gms
Bengal Gram            -  100 gms(1 Cup)
Tomatoes                 -  2 medium sized
Garlic                       -  5 pearls
Green chillies            -  2 nos
Red chille powder    -  1 tea spoon
Mustard                   -  1 table spoon
Jeera                        -  1 table spoon
Red chili                   -  2 nos
Turmeric powder      -  1 pinch
Ghee                        -  1 table spoon
Salt to taste


1.   Soak bengal gram for 15 mins.
2.   Wash clean and chop Spring onions finely.
3.   Chop tomatoes, shelled garlic and green chillies finely too.
4.   In a heated kadai add 1/2 spoon of ghee and add the mustard seeds.
5.   Once it crackles add the chopped spring onions and fry for 3 mins.
6.   Now add the chopped garlic and green chillies.
7.   After 2 mins and after you get the nice smell of green chillies add the chopped tomatoes.
8.   Once the tomatoes are cooked add salt turmeric powder and mix thoroughly.
9.   Add the soaked bengal gram and transfer the whole mixture into a pressure cooker.
10. Cook till the bengal gram turns soft.  Atlease 3 whistles.
11  After the weight is released mash the dal and add water if necessary and boil once again.
12. Sprinkle the chilli powder on top of the dal.
13. Heat the remaining ghee in the kadai and add the jeera and red chili.
14. Pour the thadka over the chili powder.
15. Spring onion Bengal gram dal is ready to be served.
